poem 338 of a poem a day for 2012

geo-caching my soul

I took a walk into the woods today
to walk away from my words
to be as far away
as I could get from their sounds
I wanted to hear the snap of branches
instead, beneath my feet
and the curl brown tiny claps
of leaves fallen neat

I took a walk into the woods today
to see an end to my old self
I took a walk in the woods today
to put my breath to the wind
and to leave none on the shelf

I took a walk in the woods today
to spy nothing but the smells of harvest
near the cling bells of Summer
in the rear view mirrors of trees
they catch the wind and my scent too
because they already knew

I took a walk in the woods today
to put down my every lame
I took a walk in the woods today
to know what an end could be
without being a game

I took a walk in the woods today
so that the animals could see
I was abdicating the crown
to give up the throne
I took a walk in the woods today
so I could not be found
in all the seeded Springs
away in the distance

so perhaps time will eventually
unearth my remains and say
he took a walk in the woods today
to bind himself insane
he took a walk in the woods today
to leave us the treasure
of his scattered
broken bones
his tattered
spoken poems
