bending detail of center panel 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' Hieronymus Bosch |
(near the wedding of the daughter of Koroneus)
bird songs and fins
the wild in us
lingers
phallus
orchid dish
we bird grooms
spend early Spring days
practicing how to breathe underwater
moist hoisted miller daughters
mean meal us meander us
meant bent threaded seams
we we're all under ancient orders
to see how far divers
could king fish
testing threshes
thrashes lashes
and the rites quick
do ye do we
want to stay human
as for our suitor loot
our tributes kept coming
one by one
we'd bring
boots of beer
and other undones
bread ties from a future
to twist close
nests in trees that walk
we lean back
sole to glass
the past
a mouth agape
there is a door here
near where souls
curry or bargain for reason
or purpose to be
it is the last chance
to leave
it is the door of great enticements
go go go hot dogs, buns
slurpy slushy, a land
of tongue
words wanting
to be something
else
on the run
nuns in high heels
calling to Circe too
Gods and Goddesses know
find thyself, serene
knead a lot
of what peels
appealing, clean
through
to the other
side of no going back
