what rumpled clothes said

cold early Spring spilling in through
the window I insisted on leaving open...

look at you, remember
who fell fast asleep
after chasing
and tasting
your divine words

and there you were
chasing noon behind blinds
you're unfurled
over covers
I slide spoon
still sticky
steal into
your warm
wade to sleep
wait for you
to wake me
aching
again
like me
because
I can't fall
asleep lying
next to you

  1. "you're un/fur/led" ... I don't chase animals. They chase me.

Or maybe it's "you're run, fur-led" ... This makes me think of Jacob stripping off his skin to wolf himself. It's possible that there's a little bit of "run, fury-led" in there as well. Also lead. The metal. Meet all. Meat all. Ha. That sounds like someone I know.

"chasing noon behind blinds" ... I love this line. It might also say "chasing no-one behind blinds."

    "I slide spoon
    still sticky
    steal into
    your warm
    wade to sleep
    wait for you
    to wake me
    aching
    again
    like me
    because
    I can't fall
    asleep lying
next to you" ... This, of course, is my favorite part, which makes me totally melty.

If the ending isn't a lie in itself, then it means that she's the one, you can't lie to. Especially when you're in bed together.

Of course, it might just say "ass-leap lying." :P

Or it might say that you are lying to her, and that's why can't get to sleep. You feel guilty. I love a poem that you think you get but then maybe you don't and in the end, you're just left baffled ... but for me, it excites me. A poem that confounds me a touch gives me permission to decide it means whatever I want it to me. So the crazier the better when it comes to how I read. :) That's what makes me giddy about poetry ... the anything-goes vibe.

    1. rumpled = rum pled, room plead ... or we could rearrange letters just a touch and find demure, de's rump, pure dimples, red plum ... you get the idea ... my eyes get twitchy sometimes
