poem 164 of a poem a day for 2012

what my lust believes

that I am as real as rain
that I am a root writhe
that I dive in for taste
for the promise surrender sings
when my eyes roll back to the brain
to get my nose’s approval
I want to validate the memory of painted caves
reaching inside me as rivers do
when they cut the land into valleys

I know that time is itself a poem
whisking divinities into solar winds
that lip every Moon for orbital certainty
you can find me coming to
when no words can catch what my exhales find
in the pattern-less chaos
words already know each turn of mine
they’ve been driving the bus, letting me off
along the boulevard a ways from my destination
so I can walk into my needs along the way
so I can hang smiles in slow spread simmers

when night is full with late leaned May
in the rain, in the canopy of leaves
and I am clinging to bite anyone besides myself
I remember every time I had ever felt alone
as if I were the clouds smelling their way back
as if I were reaching into the Earth again
as if the picture of my every bend became as clear
as the bells of my eyes closing to time for being old
because they know the rain is just my soul
with the weight of water and gravity
taken hold of each breath
when it knows I am lusting
ever-lusting to believe in me again

  3. I love the journey of believing in me again ~ I specially like the nature touches of rain, river, water, moon, weaving with your words.

A pleasure to read your offering ~

  4. This is a very powerful and lovely poem that pulls us into its growing awareness of beauty and the desire for completion. Your words have a solidity and sincerity that make them evoke the realities that you have experienced.

  6. "that I am a root writhe"
    ohhh like this very much...
" for the promise surrender sings"
lovely, such a hard thing for me, to hear the promise...
"I want to validate the memory of painted caves"
this seems dirty to me :) like he remembered how to move inside her because her "cave" remembered...
    "whisking divinities into solar winds
that lip every Moon for orbital certainty"
I love lines like this, ones where it seems the write could trip up at any time, but then you get to the end of the line and it was so brilliant! no fall!
" when no words can catch what my exhales find"
exhales of ecstacy that no words can describe...
" because they know the rain is just my soul
with the weight of water and gravity"
    unbelievable. so good!!
