poem 138 of a poem a day for 2012 (NaPoWriMo26)

lifeguard duty

would I rather be
a damning truth
or a sweet lie
given the choice
I'd rather not
have to decide
based on magnetic
and chemical residences
in realms of attraction
just to bloom a forever
in your eyes

this doesn't guarantee
the certainty of anything
but what we chained to time
and to what surmise
the surprises
in the reprises of our
stepping back to leap forward

towards where my will
always crawls to
like the tides
making finger languages
in the sands
that capture demands
I've placed in the slow erase
of my insistence
for permanence in
the comforts of rust

I must
I must
trust someone again
or I'll just stay
swimming
the doggie paddle
to the end

nice...love the beats in your piece...and your summation as well in needing to learn trust again...nice piece man

  2. Yes, we all get into those things of treading water (circles usually). Well expressed K.

  3. Hi Ed! my comment seems to have been eaten (or under moderation)! Just said that you write so well of that phenomenon of treading water (in circles)! Well done. k.

  4. Well living at the beach I can attest to the permanence of(and I suppose for some there might be some comfort in)rust. Trusting twice isn't easy, probably not made easier in shifting sands. Age draws time and tides around us though and life wasn't meant to be spent grieving alone. Swim in and cruise the beach. The pickin's are pretty good.
    Interesting write!

  5. 'of my insistence

    This was striking, well said.
