napowrimo5

passing Antigone along the sea at night, she smiles and pokes at me with a glowing stick

(ashes, ashes we all fall down)
damn easy
drawn in
constant fade
doppler warble
slow stretched
echo bowed
exhaled billows and wafts
caught
as if in one of those
giant amoeba-esque bubbles
a piece by piece moment rubbled
and coming together humbled
when nothing but quiet is
pushing the eggshells away
and breathing skin
undulating with awakened sins
where fences always fail
and wind currents bail
the humidity overboard
and gravity's silent spin
weights time til blood finds
its way home
in a poem
just before midnight
where I fight
my mad electric pools
my sagittal fibers blues
my snaked mouths livened
in jump-start jives and
twitching at the ready
for my blind feeding in an eddy
even the tiniest bit of faith
can determine what roots sink
along the foundation and wink
at me hiding in the bushes
of this little old house
waiting on the Sun in Winter
where belladonna has already claimed
my eyes, pall-bearing
and piling her bones
in the damp cries
under the rich loam
and grape vine
strangling what it can
now grasping for air
with the raspberries too
on the climb
on a dare
in the quiet like me
watching the clouds
scour the end
of another day
unlike me however
the clouds are never
blind
by choice
as I am
they serve
the wind
that knows
what ghosts
are alive
in the dust
it seems
I only know
I can
only burn
alive
what I love
what I used
to be
inside
what I know
I never
have to see
again

  4. This is an easy favorite. Put it on the list of poems you should submit for publication first.
